In 2007, Siddhartha initiated a journey to Rajasthan, where he was introduced to the khartal, a traditional Indian percussion instrument. Gifted with a pair of khartal by a friend, Siddhartha found himself deeply enthralled by the instrument. Devoting numerous hours to rigorous practice, he cultivated his skill in playing the khartal day and night. Over time, Siddhartha’s passion for the khartal blossomed, leading him to venture into making and selling these instruments.

Presently, Sid imparts the art of playing khartal to a global audience from his studio, “Surya Sound Temple,” located in Brooklyn. Through endeavors like the class “Tap Dance with your Hands,” he aims to explore elements of balance, rhythm, and movement. His overarching mission is to safeguard the khartal from fading into obscurity, aspiring for it to become a cherished musical instrument enjoyed by people worldwide.
